Aside from teaching syllabus, related subject matter, the Commerce Department of Goa Multi-faculty College, takes initiative to organize various guest lectures and workshops to empower students by exposing to various contemporary issues.
Department of Commerce of Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora in association with The Reserve Bank of India, Panaji, organised a program on 27th July 2017, on ‘Finacial Literacy’ for the students of F.Y, S.Y and T.Y B.Com. This two and half-hour workshop comprised of three sessions by banking experts who enlightned 120 B.Com students.
The program commenced at 11.30 a.m and was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp at the hands of the Principal of Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora, Dr. Manasvi Kamat, esteemed resource person Mr. Carey Mascarenhas(Manager-reserve Bank of India) and Mr. Cassian Gomes(Asistant Manager, Reserve Bank of India) and followed by floral welcome by Ms. Kalpita Naik, Assistant Professor.
The Principal, Dr. Manasvi Kamat, welcomed the gathering and urged students to derive maximum inputs from the knowledge shared by the experts.
The first resource for the day was Mr. Carey Mascarenhas, who enlightened the young minds by giving a broad overview of R.B.I, its objectives & functions & monetary policy. He further spoke on currency management and touched upon the aspects like printing of notes, notes/coins circulation and monetary policy.
In the second session, Mr. Cassian Gomes, touched upon the Investment in banks, PMBSY, PPF accounts in bank, Do’s & Don’ts in ATM, NEFT, RTGS & other banking terminology. He also offered valuable inputs on how & where to lodge a complaint in case of any deception or carelessness from the banker’s side.
Mr.Carey Mascarenhas took another session on “Banking as Career Option”. He spoke on preparatory pattern for bank exams. He further touched on the benefits & other incentives availed by the bank employees. He encouraged students to answer bank exams and choose this as their career.
The session was followed by a quiz competion conducted by the resource persons and the winners were given prizes.The Reserve Bank of India, sponsered notebooks & refreshments.
Both the speakers gave valuable inputs and guidelines to opt for career in Banks and solved all students’ queries. The workshop was indeed an informative, interesting and interactive program. It was a unification of metaphors, videos and examples. Ms. Kalpita Naik, Course Co-ordinator, Department of Commerce, ended it with the Vote of Thanks. Ms. Samiksha Naik, from T.Y.B.Com compered the workshop.
