EXPOSURE VISIT TO NIO-CSIR, GOA SCIENCE CENTRE, AND CENTRAL LIBRARY

The department of IT & Computer Applications of SPES’s Goa Multi-Faculty College Dharbandora, organized an exposure visit for the students of BCA to National Institute of Oceanography – CSIR, Dona – Paula, Goa Science Centre, Miramar, and Central Library, Patto – Panaji, on 10th March 2023. Total of 41 students along with 3 teachers participated in the exposure visit.

The journey began from college at 9.30 am and reached the first destination – NIO-CSIR at 11.30 a.m. Mr. Devanand Kovlekar, Biologist at NIO-CSIR, briefed all the students about the processes being carried out in NIO-CSIR, Dona Paula, and directed the group to the Museum in NIO. Further, he took the group to the Auditorium, where the students were shown a 20-minute documentary on NIO-CSIR, showcasing the techniques of data collection and the process of doing research. Then Mr. Kovlekar interacted with our students and made them understand the scope for BCA degree at NIO-CSIR. He also mentioned the procedure of applying for the job at NIO. the group left the NIO premises by 1.00 p.m. and headed towards Goa Science Centre, Miramar.

After the lunch break, students were taken to the 3D projection room where the they experienced a 10-minute 3D video. From there the students were taken to the Planetarium where they watched a short movie on the evolution of Universe, Earth and Phases of Sun. After watching the movie, all headed to the museum at Science Centre, where the students learnt by playing with all science related stuff. At 4.00 pm the group left for their final destination of the visit – the Central Library.

The group reached the Central Library, Patto – Panaji at 4.30 p.m. Ms. Siddhi Shetkar, Librariab Grade-III, explained the working of the Central Library to all the students. She gave them the insight of how to issue books, how to apply for the library membership, etc. Central Library has 5 floors, and each floor is meant for specific type of books. There is also a floor meant for small kids, by looking at which our students were fascinated. Finally, the students learned how the Bar Code is scanned to keep the records of the book issuing party. After taking look of all the 5 floors and getting the knowledge of the working of the Library, the group left the Library premises at 5.15 p.m.

All the students were very happy to experience the said exposure visit. The group returned to college at 6.25 p.m.
