Swacchta Rally Held at GMFC by NSS Unit

GMFC NSS Volunteers Participate in Swacchta Rally

On Wednesday, 14th August 2019, around forty-seven NSS volunteers of Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora, Goa, participated in a Swachhta Rally under the supervision of staff members. This rally was conducted as part of the various activities undertaken to observe the Swachhta Pakhwada (Fortnight) from 1st to 15th August 2019. The rally was conducted through the streets of Dayanandnagar, Dharbandora, Goa.
Even the heavy monsoon downpour wasn’t able to dampen the enthusiasm of students who held out placards and shouted slogans in Hindi and Konkani meant to promote the message of cleanliness and hygiene. Students also stopped at the small shops and stalls along the streets and interacted with shopkeepers and customers about the small steps, like unclogging chocked up drains, regularly washing footwear, wiping down tables and chairs at eateries etc., that could help maintain cleanliness during the rains.
On the day after the rally, the NSS Volunteers held a short meeting immediately after the Independence Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony to discuss further activities that can be organized to promote the Swacchhta Mission. At the meeting it was resolved that the NSS volunteers would attempt to undertake an awareness drive that would focus on dissuading villagers around GMFC from excessive use of plastic, and students would try to educate residents about the harmful effects of trying to burn plastic waste. Also, it was agreed that NSS volunteers would promote planting of medicinal herbs and shrubs around the college campus and try to participate in street cleaning activities in the vicinity of the college on a weekly basis.
